My Minimalist Makeup Routine
I used to be a heavy makeup wearer in my early 20s, then I really started to see and enjoy the value of simply enhancing my natural features through fewer steps and fewer products that achieved the same results. besides saving money on less product, it saves me so much time and my once hour-long makeup routine now takes about 10-15 minutes. The products below are my long time loves and 7 current favorite products that comprise my minimal makeup routine.
concealer
Glossier stretch concealer in G11 is what I use to conceal under my eyes and any friends I want to hide that day. Its fairly dewy and not very buildable but it is extremely blendable which is why I like it for a minimal face of makeup that melts into the skin.
blush
Glossier is the queen of minimal makeup. If you have no idea where to start if you’re looking to downsize your routine, try a couple of their products first with kits like this one.
Glossier cloud paint in beam and storm are my die hard blushes. I don’t think I’ll ever need another blush in my life as long as these are available! The color beam is identical to my skins natural blush color which makes me feel barefaced even when I have some on. Storm is a more concentrated color that I like to layer with beam when I want a more intense hue on my cheeks.
I find that a little goes a long way (I’ve had my first tube of beam for 2 years) its super blendable and fool proof when it comes to application and I always use my fingers.
brows
Glossier boy brow in brown was the first brow product that changed the game for me. I used to fill in my already thick eyebrows and this simplified my eyebrow routine to a quick 15 seconds and arguably looked better. The amount of product in the tube didn’t last very long when I used it all over my brows daily, so now I only use it in places where my brows need some filling in, then I can get it to last me between 4-6 months.
Then, I come in with my Benefit 24 hr. brow setter gel and it keeps every little hair in place all day long! Even when I’m going for a no-makeup makeup look I’ll still comb through my brows with the Benefit gel - makes me look more awake.
eyes
If I could only own one makeup item/tool it would be an eyelash curler, even if I had nothing else. I’ve used this Tart eyelash curler for years but I also recommend this one.
I’ve also loved Cover Girl’s lash blast mascara for years and I keep coming back to it! It’s easily layer-able, it lifts and separates without clumping and stays looking fresh all day. Their waterproof hydrofuge version is perfection in a mascara but its also more difficult to remove so I save that one for special occasions.
When I’m feeling fancy
Here's a few bonus products that I add to my existing routine when I want a little UMPH…
Glossier Haloscope in quartz is a dewey highlighter stick that I apply to my brow bone, bridge of my nose, cupids bow and the tops of my cheek bones. It makes me glow and sometimes I need that in my life!
I love love LOVE this L’oreal Paris matte liquid lip in the color I Create. It’s exactly like my natural lip color in a more concentrated pigment so when my lips are looking a little pale I just dab a bit of this on (doesn’t take much) and I feel so much more pulled together! I own other colors in this same product but I always come back to “I create” - how fitting!
Wet n wild breakup proof liquid eyeliner is a newer product to me but I like what I’ve seen so far! For only $5 its been the best liquid liner I’ve used in a while and has a sharp pointed felt tip, perfect for a quick cat eye or when I’m wanting a more intense eye look. Even though its technically waterproof it comes off easily with soap and water so whats not to love?
My add-ons for a full face of makeup like foundation, eyeshadow, brushes and lipsticks change every now and again but these 6-7 products aren’t going anywhere.
Do we use any of the same items?
I would love to hear what you use and why you love it!
