4 Hallmarks Of Classic Americana
Lately, I’ve been pondering the question what makes classic Americana, classic Americana? Is attaining the aesthetic as elite as the trending style term “old money” implies, or just a matter of being gifted with style instinct?
Personally, I don’t think that’s the case. Over the last 4 years I’ve discovered timeless style master-able and attainable at every price point.
There’s a lot to dissect, but here are 3 hallmarks of the “timeless” style genre.
Accessories: At the heart of “old money” (personally I’m not a fan of the term) style is what’s been passed down to the next generation and jewelry encapsulates this perfectly, well made silver or gold accessories are an essence of timeless style and I’ve found to be a worthy investment.
Neutrals: This may be controversial, but by observation, classic Americana isn’t innately colorful at first glance. It’s host to a lot of really versatile neutrals and simple prints but that does not mean it’s boring.
Tailored: One of the most important aspects you’ve probably seen in vintage Ralph Lauren or J.Crew, is that items are tailored when the need to be. And tailored doesn’t mean tight: it means altered for a particular purpose, and it makes all the difference in making every outfit look elevated and intentional.
Scent: Perhaps the dark horse, but in my opinion, wearing a scent can be just as important as clothing.
Perfume can be the cherry on top of a simple, elegant outfit and sometimes can be twice as memorable!
